The University of Illinois Board of Trustees established the University of Illinois Global Campus as a new unit organized at the university level to bring quality online education programs to students around Illinois, across the country, and throughout the world.
The mission of The Global Campus is:
In collaboration with the Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield campuses, the University of Illinois Global Campus fosters the development and delivery of high-quality, Internet-based degree, certificate, and professional development programs on a large scale for non-traditional audiences. The Global Campus works with campus academic leaders and faculty to identify important high-demand education and service opportunities and to develop responsive programs that are delivered to audiences worldwide. In addition, The Global Campus works with the Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield campuses, and their continuing education units, to help build capacity for online teaching and innovation and to help infuse online technologies throughout the University’s curricula.
The official establishment of The Global Campus follows 18 months of analysis to determine the feasibility of creating a new entity within the university to provide large-scale delivery of degree and certificate programs over the Internet. The major goals of The Global Campus include:
