Online Programs from the U of I
Professional Development Sequence in Translation, French
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Program Information
This sequence of courses for professional development in translation combines general courses on linguistic contrasts between French and English (419/421), with a selection of other courses, both general (Theory of Translation, Terminology and Lexicology) and more specific (Commercial French, Scientific and Technical French). The goal is to give students three essential skills to be able to use advanced language skills in professional contexts:
1. the linguistic knowledge of contrasts between the two languages
2. procedures that facilitate translation work
3. cultural background and technical language in specific domains
We offer a certificate of completion for students who complete five courses (two courses in translation (419 and 421) and three other courses).
