Admissions and Prerequisites

Admissions Requirements:

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Degree completion program from the College of Business Administration (CBA) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) covers the final 60 credit hours required to receive your Bachelor's degree. Admission requirements and prior course work are described below.

You meet the admissions requirements for the BBA Degree Completion program if you have:

  • Completed at least 60 hours of prerequisite post-secondary course work with a grade of "C" or better (see description of prerequisites below)
  • Maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (4.0 grading scale) in all post-secondary course work

Please submit the following to support your request for admission:

  • A completed application
  • Official transcripts from all prior post-secondary institutions attended, including prior attendance at any campus of the University of Illinois

Records are considered official if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • The issuing institution sends them directly to the University of Illinois, 510 Devonshire, Suite H, Champaign, IL, 61820.
  • They are certified as true copies by an official of the educational institution, an embassy official, or an appropriate government official.
  • They have been received in an envelope sealed by the issuing institution.

Prerequisites:

You must have completed at least 60 hours of post-secondary coursework, in the following two categories:

I. Core Requirements: (Total of 16 Core hours required)

  • English Composition I (3 credit hours)
  • English Composition II (3 credit hours)
  • Principles of Macroeconomics (3 credit hours)
  • Principles of Microeconomics (3 credit hours)
  • Finite Mathematics (4 credit hours)

II. General Education Requirements: (Total of 44+ General Education hours required)

  • Analyzing the Natural World* (5 credit hours)
  • Exploring World Cultures* (3 credit hours)
  • Understanding the Creative Arts* (3 credit hours)
  • Understanding the Individual and Society* (3 credit hours)
  • Understanding the Past* (3 credit hours)
  • Understanding U.S. Society* (3 credit hours)
  • Electives** (24+ credit hours)

Please Note: An earned Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree from an Illinois community college fulfills the General Education requirements, per the Illinois Articulation Initiative. If you have not earned such a degree, you must complete 60 transferable hours including the Core and General Education requirements above.

* Students can select from a number of different courses to satisfy the broad General Education categories listed above. Following is a brief description of each category:

  • Analyzing the Natural World: Courses in this category should introduce students to scientific and mathematical concepts and methods
  • Exploring World Cultures: Courses in this category should address significant aspects of any culture that is not part of the mainstream American culture
  • Understanding the Creative Arts: Courses in this category should focus, in close detail, on a number of significant works in literature, art, or other media
  • Understanding the Individual and Society: Courses in this category should introduce students either to the complexities of the individual or the relationship of the individual to social structures
  • Understanding the Past: Courses in this category should have as their focus significant past events
  • Understanding U.S. Society: Courses in this category should address some significant aspect of U.S. Society as their central focus

There are numerous courses that satisfy each of these categories. You can see a list of these courses and other information about UIC General Education requirements at www.uic.edu/ucat/toc.html.

**Other Mathematics, Calculus, Statistics or quantitative analysis courses are highly recommended prerequisites that can be taken in order to satisfy the 24 hours of Electives requirements. However, many courses that satisfy the above general education requirements as well as those required for an associate's degree in business can also satisfy the Electives requirements.

International Students

We consider an international student to be any student who does not have American citizenship or permanent residency status. In addition to the materials requested above and TOEFL scores, international applicants must also submit:

  • List of all subjects/courses studied each year
  • Grades or examination results received
  • Maximum and minimum grades obtainable
  • Certified/attested English translation of all credentials
  • Degrees, certificates, diplomas awarded accompanied by leaving results
  • Official syllabus in English describing fully all course work attempted

TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), for applicants from non-English speaking countries. The minimum acceptable score is 550 for the paper version and 213 for the computer version or a minimum total score of 80, with subscores of Writing (21), Speaking (20), Listening (17), and Reading (19) for the new TOEFL exam. The TOEFL examination is not required for students who have completed at least two academic years of full-time study in a country where English is the native language and in a school where English is the language of instruction within five years of the proposed date of enrollment in the University. In addition, the TOEFL examination is not required of non-native English speakers who have a minimum of one year full-time employment in the U.S. or other country where the only official language of the country is English. Applicants must submit a letter from their employer verifying at least 12 consecutive months of employment and describing their English language skills.

Application Procedures

You may apply online to a University of Illinois program at any time throughout the year. We make it easy for you to apply and enroll.

Student must indicate residency status at the time of application:

  • Resident: Illinois residents
  • Non-Resident: Non-Illinois residents/U.S. citizens, U.S. Nationals, and Resident Aliens International: Citizens of countries other than the U.S. and residing outside of the U.S.
  • International: Citizens of countries other than the U.S. and residing outside of the U.S.

An application fee must be paid at the time of application. The application fees are $40 for Resident applicants, $50 for Non-Resident and $75 for International. (Please note that payment can be made by credit card only using MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express.)

Once you apply, you will be assigned an Advisor who will work with you throughout the entire process-from admission, to registration, to financial aid, and all the way through graduation. You'll work with your advisor through every step of your education.

All applicants will be required to submit official transcripts from all prior colleges and universities attended, including prior attendance at any campus of the University of Illinois.

Applications will be reviewed daily, making our admissions process fast and efficient. Once your application is reviewed, you'll be notified by your advisor of any additional documents that are required. Additional documentation may be requested, depending upon your program of interest. Keep in mind that applications received close to the beginning of the intended start term may not be processed in time for you to begin that course. We recommend that your application and all materials be received at least two weeks prior to the intended start of the program. Please see individual programs for start dates.

Once all required documentation is received, you will be notified of the admission decision within 72 hours.
