Program Information
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is offering a certificate program for individuals interested in learning the fundamental processes that control pollutant transport and fate in soil and groundwater. Students will also learn the methodologies and tools that use knowledge of these fundamental processes for modeling remediation, and risk assessment. All courses are offered via the Internet using streaming technology.
Program Requirements
To obtain a certificate, the student must complete three of the following courses earning a B- or higher in each course:
CEE 440 -- Solid and Hazardous Waste
CEE 453 -- Urban Hydrology and Hydraulics
CEE 457 -- Groundwater
CEE 498 ER -- Environmental Risk Assessment/Management
CEE 540 -- Remediation Design
CEE 557 -- Groundwater Modeling
CEE 598 WT -- Materials for Water Treatment Systems
Application Requirements
Students who wish to apply must meet the following requirements.
BS degree in engineering or science from an accredited college in the United States or an approved institution of higher learning abroad.
Have a 3.0/4.0 or higher GPA for the last 60 semester hours in a BS program. Students who do not meet the 3.0/4.0 GPA criterion may still be eligible to enroll if they have significant experience outside of the classroom. Such students are encouraged to contact the graduate advisor at valocchi@uiuc.edu to determine if they are eligible to register for online classes and participate in the certificate program.

Official transcripts reflecting the total BS degree program and any other degrees listed under the "Degree Information" section must be sent along with the application before it will be processed.
