Student FAQs

What is The Global Campus?

The Global Campus is a new doorway to a University of Illinois education-online, any time, and accessible for today's student. The Global Campus will offer fully accredited University of Illinois master's degrees, bachelor's completion degrees, and certificates across a broad array of disciplines with courses developed and delivered in partnership with University of Illinois faculty on one of the residential campuses.

Can I earn a degree through The Global Campus?

Yes. Global Campus graduate programs lead to fully accredited master’s degrees and graduate certificates. Bachelor's degrees may be earned through Global Campus online degree completion programs.

Will credits earned from Global Campus courses transfer to another program or institution?

Yes, the credits will usually transfer, but it will be up to the individual program and institution to determine whether the credit can be accepted in fulfillment of specific program and/or degree requirements.

As a Global Campus student, will I have access to a library, and if so how do I use it?

The Global Campus will provide enrolled students access to materials through a virtual library. All materials necessary to complete your coursework will be easily available. Journals, periodicals, reserved articles in your program, and other library materials will be accessible via a single login. Students will learn how to utilize the virtual library during the orientation and through tutorials.

Will I be required to show up at a specific location at any time for an online class or program?

No. Global Campus students will be able to complete all course work online.

How do students submit coursework and take tests?

Global Campus students submit assignments online by uploading files to dedicated folders in their courses. Instructors retrieve files for review and grading, and they post feedback on the assignments. All of this activity can be managed via Desire2Learn, the learning management system used for Global Campus courses. Students can also take quizzes and exams online in Desire2Learn. Depending on the nature of the quiz, students can receive automatic feedback, correct and incorrect responses, and general statistics on the test.

What will my diploma say?

Your diploma will be granted by the University of Illinois campus that is home to the college that offers your degree. For example, students completing the BSN Completion Program for RNs will be granted diplomas by the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and students completing the Master of Education degree with a concentration in E-Learning will be granted diplomas by the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. You will find no asterisks or fine print: degrees offered through The Global Campus are University of Illinois degrees.

Are Global Campus programs accredited?

All three campuses of the University of Illinois are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, which is responsible for accrediting institutions in the north-central region of the United States. In addition, some programs are individually accredited by discipline-specific accrediting bodies.
