How to Apply
Credit Courses and Programs
Most adademic credit courses and programs at UIC require students to apply through the Office of Admissions either online or on paper. However, some programs have specific application requirements. See below for more detail.
Graduate Study
Students must be admitted to the Graduate College to enroll in graduate courses and programs offered at UIC. For some programs, there is an option to enter the Graduate College as a non-degree student; however, not all programs accept non-degree students. For program-specific information regarding the non-degree option, see the paragraph below. In some cases, there is an option to apply as a non-degree student if the program offers a non-degree ("campus") certificate. Students are encouraged to browse the other online certificate options offered through UIC.
The non-degree option and certificate option are designed for students who do not wish to pursue a degree but want to take courses for professional reasons or personal enrichment, as well as for individuals who have been out of school for several years or in a different field of study. General information about graduate admissions is available at the Graduate College Admissions Web site. Since individual programs of study may have additional specific admissions requirements, be sure to contact the coordinator of the program(s) you are interested in before submitting your application.
NOTE: The Master of Science in Health Informatics does not accept non-degree applications unless the student is applying to the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Informatics, which is a non-degree program. Additionally, there are a few online graduate programs that require students to apply directly with the department and not through the Graduate College. These programs are as follows: Master of Engineering, Certificate in Engineering Law and Management, Certificate in Electromagnetics, Certificate in Wireless Communication, Certificate in Bioinformatics, and the Master of Public Health in Public Health Informatics.
