Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Informatics

Admissions and Prerequisites

Admissions Requirements: We require the following for admission to the post-baccalaureate certificate program:

  • At least 2.75 (A=4.0) for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study and at least 3.0 (A= 4.0) for all work completed beyond the baccalaureate.

  • At minimum, an earned degree at the baccalaureate level from any accredited undergraduate program is required.


  • In addition to the above requirements and the general admission requirements of the Graduate College, the following are required of the applicant to be considered for admission:

  • Official transcripts for each post secondary institution attended in a signed, sealed envelope

  • A resume highlighting the applicant's education and experience

  • A personal statement from the applicant, addressing the outcomes and benefits the applicant hopes to receive from completing the certificate program

  • An interview with school faculty to determine eligibility, interest, and purpose of graduate study


  • International applicants whose native language is not English must pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who take the paper-based TOEFL MUST also take the Test of Written English (TWE). If the applicant has taken the paper-based TOEFL, minimum scores in the range of 585-600 will be considered; in addition, the applicant must take the Test of Written English and submit scores in the range of 5-6. If the student has taken the TOEFL iBT, a minimum total score of 95 will be considered. The sub-scores must be at least 24 in Reading, 24 in Speaking, 22 in Listening, 24 in Writing. If the applicant has taken the computer-based TOEFL, minimum scores in the range of 240-250 will be considered. In this case the Test of Written English is not required.

    Application Procedures

    Once a student has been admitted to UIC, students must register via the Web for Student system (Banner). Students should consult with their academic advisor for questions regarding in which courses to register.
