Admissions and Prerequisites

Admissions Requirements:

  • A completed application
  • All applicants will be required to submit official transcripts from all prior colleges and universities attended, including prior attendance at any campus of the University of Illinois.

Prerequisites:

All MIS applicants will be considered based on the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate work: An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • While there is no minimum GPA required for admission to this certificate program, students who wish to apply their coursework to the UIS Master's in MIS must meet the UIS admissions requirements and apply to that program separate from their admission to the certificate program. Students who have achieved a grade of at least a B in each of the individual certificate courses and have a GPA of 2.5 or above at the undergrad level are eligible for admittance to the UIS Master's program. Conditional admittance may also be available for students with less than a 2.5 GPA but have a higher GRE or GMAT score.

International Students

We consider an international student to be any student who does not have American citizenship or permanent residency status. In addition to the materials requested above and TOEFL scores, international applicants must also submit:

  • Applicants with international credentials must present grade/mark sheets, or attested copies of diplomas reflecting dates of attendance (month + year), classes, grades, rank and graduation for all high schools as well as all post secondary institutions attended. In addition, complete certified English translation of each document is required. (Only originals or certified copies of originals will be accepted.)

Records are considered official if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • The issuing institution sends them directly to the Office of Admissions, University of Illinois at Springfield, One University Plaza, MS UHB 1080, Springfield, Illinois 62703.
  • They are certified as true copies by an official of the educational institution, an embassy official, or an appropriate government official.
  • They have been received in an envelope sealed by the issuing institution.

TOEFL

Applicants whose native language is not English must submit official international TOEFL scores. A score of not less than 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), or 79 (Internet based) fulfills the English proficiency requirement for admission to these certificates. Applicants who hold a U.S. bachelor's degree are not required to submit TOEFL scores.
