Library Services
Online students enrolled at UIS can access electronic resources and other services available through the Brookens Library. The Brookens Bridge, UIS's gateway to online information resources provides links to numerous databases, including Illinet Online, the online library catalog. In order to borrow materials from any of the 56 libraries participating the the I-Share consortium, a 14-digit ID number is required. Off-campus students have the option of receiving the 14-digit ID number via e-mail or requesting an I-card (without photo) with the number printed on it.
Online students may use interlibrary loan services through the forms provided on the Library's web page. If you are unable to pick up the materials at the Brookens Library, a limited number of articles can be mailed to your home address upon request. Always check the Illinet Online catalog to see if needed materials are available through online request (or at nearby I-Share consortium libraries) before submitting a request for a book through interlibrary loan on the UIS Library web page. At this time, all books requested through either the Illinet Online system or through regular interlibrary loan are sent to the UIS Library and must be picked up there.
Many online course instructors use Electronic Course Reserves for supplemental course materials. Instructors using this service will provide passwords and instructions for access.
