LEEP: Library and Information Science
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Graduate School of Library and Information Science
How to Apply
At Urbana, formal application and admission are required of degree-seeking
students only. Additional details are given below.
Undergraduate Courses
Online courses at the 100, 200, and 300-level are open to undergraduate
applicants who meet the course prerequisites. Formal application
and admission are not required to enroll as a non-degree student
in online undergraduate courses. Courses at the 400-level are open
only to students with a bachelor's degree. Undergraduate students
who plan to apply one or more online courses toward a baccalaureate
degree at any institution should first consult with their academic
advisor.
Graduate Courses
and Programs
A formal application and admissions process is not required in order
to enroll in just one or two courses. A maximum of three units of
credit (roughly equivalent to three courses) earned prior to admission
as a degree candidate may be applied toward a graduate degree program
at Urbana. Thus, if you are considering a full degree program in
the future, it is advisable to apply for admission to the Graduate
College and your desired program of study as early as possible to
insure that credits earned in online course work are applicable
to the program.
Off-campus students who wish to pursue a graduate degree program from UIUC must apply and be accepted for admission as a degree candidate in the Graduate College. Before applying for admission, contact the department to which you seek admission. Many graduate programs require additional information along with the basic application.
Online and downloadable application forms as well as information about applying for graduate admission are available from the Graduate College Web site. Additional information, policies, and procedures of relevance to off-campus students are available in the Programs section of the Division of Academic Outreach Web site.
If you are uncertain about whether you need to be admitted before enrolling in an online course, contact a registration secretary in the Division of Academic Outreach at (217) 333-3060 or toll-free at (800) 252-1360, extension 3-3060.
