Through a multidisciplinary approach to education and training, the Patient Safety Leadership program, designed by the College of Medicine in conjunction with several other colleges at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will be offered online through The Global Campus. The program will enable learners and health care organizations to affect positive change in all aspects of patient care, from the bedside to facility design, including administration, academia, government, accreditation and clinical associations.
The University of Illinois Patient Safety Leadership program will provide health care professionals the education and training necessary to improve the quality of medical care. In 2000, the Institute of Medicine issued a report on the lack of understanding and practice of patient safety methods by health professionals in the United States. In proactive response to such reports and statistics about health care trends, the Patient Safety Leadership program endeavors to break the cycle of medical error and improve the safety of patients who participate in the health care system through education, leadership training, and evidence-based course objectives.
